Ok when you say reset your computer to all defaults, you mean with a fresh install of Windows? You can reset all your video/monitor settings by uinstalling and then reinstalling your video adapter drivers..
Here is what you do

Go to START, then place your cursor over ALL PROGRAMS. Then click PC HELP %26 TOOLS, then click SYSTEM RESTORE. This is like a time machine and can set your system to a point where your computer was running good. Or set it to the time before you loaded up that program that had a virus in it.

If the Restore does not work, then you will do a recovery. There are two types of recovery. A soft recovery where you will lose data, but your programs are still there. The second is a ''Hard'' recovery where you lose everything. The HDD is reformatted back to the factory specifications.
