What are my options to recover my data after my HD failed?

The drive is about 4-5 yrs old. I took the drive into a local computer repair shop and they told me it has the click of death. They attempted to recover the data but failed. They said that the only other option is to open the drive but that this will release the internal pressure. I'm not sure what to do.

It sounds like it is shot. The click of death is the read/write head trying to read the information on the hard drive and failing to do so - not good.

There are professional recovery specialists (you can Google them) - however it is very expensive.

I would not let these yo-yo's open that drive.
