When antivirus software on computer detects a virus, what action should be taken?

My avira antivirus software detected a virus named DR/Zlob.gen

it asked me what action to take. the following options were given

1) delete

2) repair

3) quarantine

4) access deny

5) ignore

avilla itself selected access deny, and then i click ok. However few seconds later, it then decided to choose quarantine, but i changed it to delete.

did i do the right thing? what action would be best?

I just delete everything dangerous and quarantine anything not so dangerous.

A lot of the anti-virus programs choose Quarantine just to play on the safe side. This is usually a temporary stop gap just to make sure that your computer continues to operate properly while the file is being quarantined. If all is well after a few days, you can go into the file that has been quarantined and delete it safely from your computer.
Okay, first of all, we need to clear something up. Just like there are NO laptops around any more, they quit making them two decades ago and are ancient technology (today's portable computers are called by the industry either ''Electronic Notebooks'' or Notebooks'' for short, or are the smaller ''Electronic Tablets'' or ''Tablets'' for short), you also need to know that a ''virus'' is only ONE kind of computer infection!
