I have an IBM Thinkpad with the screen telling me the config\system file is missing or corrupt.?

It says to start windows setup using the original Setup CD-Rom. Can I buy this cd on ebay and if so which one do I need to buy? I have too much money in computer repairs from my four kids and their surfing on the internet and I thought maybe I could fix this one myself. Thanks.

Config\system? Or Config.sys?

If the latter (if the former, I have no idea what the computer is doing - I've only been working with computers for 33 years), and you can boot even into a command prompt (one of the choices when you turn the computer on), just delete config.sys - it's in C:\ (the root folder of your C drive). It's needed on DOS computers, but it hasn't really done anything in Windows since Windows 98 FE.

As far as the setup CD, you should have gotten either a Windows CD or a Repair CD when you bought the computer, or there should be a ''Repair Console'' kind of choice when you turn the computer on. The Setup CD is the Windows CD, and you'd have to buy one if you don't have one. (Although to just repair the computer - not to install Windows on it - it's probably legal to use someone else's Windows CD.) Just make sure it's the same version (2000, XP, Vista) of Windows that you have on the computer.
