Is there a way to hide files on personal computer?

i have this laptop that i am going to send for repair. is there a way to hide some personal files, i don't feel like to delete them.

i have an external enclosure, so i can take out the hard drive and change their files.

That would be the best thing to do, put all your personal data unto that external hard drive, and when you get your laptop back replace your data.

Don't bother hiding your files if you are sending it in for repairs, the first thing they will do is format your hardrive and even the hidden and password protected files will be deleted. For now, just store all of your files on an external hardrive or on a bunch of disks. When you get you computer back, if you still wish to hide your files, I recommend WinGuard 2007, freeware.
Get the program winrar (googel winrar should be the first link) and with that you can add them to a .RAR compression and you can put a password protection on it( .rar passwords ae really hard to crack yes there are programs that can do it but theyy take weeks and months to crack even a 3 digit password.)
Certain programs have a hide feature. If you put all the files under my documents then there is a password and you can hide them. No one could access without that password. I have hide features on all my email. So I could put all the files in a folder and then hide it internally with the password. that's easier than removing the hard drive.
you can put a password on them. i would transfer them to a flashdrive and put them back when the computer is returned. if someone can repair computers, im pretty sure they can hack a password or find hidden files.
