What would cause a computer's video player not to function?

My sister recently had her laptop ''die'' on her--she was able to get it repaired, but now the video player will not function--she says it looks like a splotch of paint. What could have caused this and what can be done about it?

What video player does she use? Also what do you mean by her laptop died? Do you know what they did to solve the problem that she had. My guess from what you have said is that the people who fixed it, reinstalled Windows and didn't install the video driver.

Hello??? are you talking about the DVD??? or the Video out, I don't understand why the repair shop did not completely test the Laptop before retuning it, take it back....
You need a DVD playback software.

You can download VLC media player or a free trial of Cyberlink Power DVD.
Find out what video player it is go to their website and download the latest drivers or codecs.Or do a search for VLC media player it plays everything .
